- Heat the whole milk in a small saucepan over low to medium heat until steaming but not boiling.
- Add the chopped dark chocolate and whisk gently until fully melted and smooth.
- Stir in the heavy cream if using to increase thickness.
- Add a pinch of salt and taste before adding any sugar.
- Whisk continuously for 3 to 5 minutes until glossy and slightly thickened.
- Remove from heat and pour into small cups.
- Top with whipped cream or sea salt flakes if desired and serve immediately.
